IIM Ahmedabad Overview

Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad is an Institute of National Importance under the IIM Act, established in 1961 at Vastrapur in Ahmedabad. It is EQUIS-accredited and has been ranked first in the NIRF management category in the most recent cycles.

The institute teaches the two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management alongside the five-year integrated programme, a food and agri-business programme, an executive programme and a doctoral programme. Admission to the PGP is through CAT, followed by the Analytical Writing Test and a personal interview.

What a candidate is choosing between here is not the syllabus, which is broadly common across the older IIMs, but the cohort, the placement record and the campus — and those are what the rest of these pages set out.

IIM Ahmedabad Admission and Application Process 2026

Admission to the PGP runs on CAT. In outline:

  1. Register for and sit CAT. A candidate applies to the exam body, not to the institute, at this stage.
  2. Clear the institute's shortlisting, which weighs the CAT score alongside academic record and, where the policy says so, work experience and diversity factors.
  3. Sit the Analytical Writing Test and the personal interview at the centre allotted.
  4. Receive the offer, made against the institute's own composite score.
  5. Accept and pay within the window named in the offer.

The shortlisting and selection weights are published by the institute for each cycle and are what a candidate should read rather than any general rule about "CAT percentile needed".

IIM Ahmedabad Placements and Salary Packages 2026

IIM Ahmedabad reports a median package of about Rs 32.0 LPA across the institute in the most recent reported cycle, with all 900 graduating students placed. The highest offer reported was Rs 1.0 crore.

The median is the figure worth reading. An average is pulled upward by a handful of exceptional offers, and the highest package describes one student's outcome rather than a cohort's.

Figures are indicative and must be checked against the placement report before this page is published.

How to Check the IIM Ahmedabad Cutoff 2026

The institute publishes a minimum CAT percentile for shortlisting rather than a closing rank, and the shortlist is drawn on a composite score rather than on the percentile alone. A candidate should read the admission policy for the cycle, which sets out every weight, instead of a single headline number.

IIM Ahmedabad Scholarships 2026

The institute runs a need-based financial aid scheme, assessed on family income and assets, alongside donor-funded and alumni-funded awards. The schemes and the application route are on the Scholarships page.
